While I was on the Getting Started course at the Goldsmiths Centre I received another great piece of news - my work has been selected to be part of the annual Rising Starts exhibition at New Ashgate Gallery in Surrey.
"Rising Stars is a platform to view and collect some of the most exciting new craft by emerging makers from crafts and applied arts programmes across the UK. This curated exhibition is accompanied by professional development and a cash prize. In the past, many of the selected exhibitors have gone on to a high profile career and elite programmes such as Hothouse supported by the Crafts Council. Therefore, the exhibition is a great collector opportunity to learn more about the stars of the future."
The exhibition is open to the public from 4th March until mid April, with free entry. The private view is on the 3rd March and I cannot wait to see everyone's work laid out together. There are a few familiar names on the shortlist, including Evgeniia Balashova who also attended the Getting Started course (if anyone would like to buy me some of her earrings I would be very grateful, thanks!)
During the private viewing the overall winner is announced, and they receive £500 and a solo exhibition themselves next year at the gallery. Winning that would be amazing, but I am made up to have been shortlisted for the exhibition so very pleased with the outcome already. I will of course report back with photo's of the night!
You can find more details here New Ashgate it is based in Farnham which means every time I look it up I hear John Farnhams' 'You're the Voice' in my head. Which you probably do too now. Sorry.
