9ct Recycled Gold and Recycled Sterling Silver Lion Pendant and Necklace

from £50.00
sold out

These little lions started life as a pair of silver spoons, one for salt one for mustard back in 1911 and 1912.

This latest series in the collection consists of a lovely little small lion faced ring, and a lion pendant. Both have been cast from the original spoons which I turned into a pendant and a ring - made with recycled old or silver depending on your choice of metal to wear. All rings and pendants will be hallmarked by London Assay Office which guarantees of the quality of gold and silver used.

I added some gold and silver to the back of the pendant to give it a bit more weight so it hangs better as the original on its own was very lightweight. As you can see from the photos, the pendant looks like it was originally that size. A choice of chain lengths, 16, 18 and 20 inches.

*** NEW *** You can now order your pendant on a double chain, photos to follow (This is following interest on an Instagram post)

Please be aware these items have up to a 3 week turnaround to allow time for the casting process, the tidying and polishing up and hallmarking time to be sent to London Assay Office. Each item will come in its own recycled and recyclable gift box and a little cleaning cloth and care card.

When I was a child my late aunt Irene used to take me to lots of antique fairs. I was always drawn to the silver and jewellery and loved that everything there was steeped in history; you would never know all that each piece had seen, where it had been, who it had been used or worn by. That fascinated me.

Towards the end of Irene's life she still liked to visit the fairs, lots of the stall holders knew her as she had bought loads over the years. Jewellery, glassware, ceramic figurines. Some of it lovely, some of it her own unique taste (!) but she loved being surrounded by her collection of antique paraphernalia.

On one of the last fairs we visited together I found two tiny little silver spoons, one for mustard one for salt, from 1911 and 1912, and both with a beautiful tigers head sitting proudly atop of the stem. Irene bought these for me, and for over a decade they sat in my studio.

A few years ago I decided to make them into jewellery, so they could be worn and loved instead of sat there gathering dust. And the lion collection was born. This latest collection in the series is made from being cast with recycled gold or silver using a mould made from the ring and pendant made from the original spoons. The legacy of Irene's lions. I think she would love that something she bought me has become something that lots of people can enjoy.

All of my creations are handmade by me in my little studio in Norfolk and come packaged in a recyclable Seed Silversmith gift box. I enjoy the integrity of the craft so don’t mass produce my designs; I keep them to fairly small numbers so you know your Suzanne Seed Silversmith jewellery is exclusive.
