The Denys Collection, Recycled Silver Textured Earrings
Growing up just over the road from the University of East Anglia it is easy to see where my love of Brutalist Architecture comes from. This collection of every day easy to wear solid silver studs were inspired by the bold geometric forms seen in Denys Ladsun’s designs, including around the UEA Campus.
Difficult to capture the beauty of this design in a photograph, the surface has been textured so give the look of decaying concrete seen on so many aging brutalist structures. With so many layers of texture the light bounces all over these studs. They are lovely to feel too, with the undulating surface of the recycled silver.
Each earring is hand textured by me meaning every single one is unique; no two will ever have an identical placement of texture.
There are four different styles to choose from; the small ovals, the longer ellipse drops, the obliques, and the large irregular shaped symmetrical pair. The Marie set is one earring of each of the four styles, a mix and match collection as shown in the main photo.
The silver used is from the bowl parts of the solid silver spoons used for other items in my Revive series, so could date anywhere from 1891 through to the 1970s, although most pieces are from the early 20th century.
Silver is such a lovely material to wear. It reacts to external temperatures so warms wonderfully against your skin, making it very comfortable to wear. I personally test all of my designs to ensure they are up to scratch. Being a solo maker I can have full quality control and it is really important to me that my designs will last as long as the silver does - which is forever.
All of my creations are handmade by me in my little studio in Norfolk and come packaged in a recyclable Seed Silversmith gift box. I enjoy the integrity of the craft so don’t mass produce my designs; I keep them to fairly small numbers so you know your Suzanne Seed Silversmith jewellery is exclusive.
