Casting Sea Glass into a Recycled Silver Pendant Workshop (suitable for beginners)

from £165.00

Duration approx. 2 hours (2-3 hours if casting two pendants or if two people are coming together)

Everyone loves sea glass; every piece is unique having been tumbled around by the sea, over oceans and around the country. This workshop session allows you to make your own contemporary pendant using a small piece of seaglass, each pendant as unique as the seaglass itself.

This workshop is perfect for a beginner, I provide all materials so all you need to do is turn up and enjoy yourself! Using Delft Sand Casting, I have a selection of different shapes you can choose from for your pendant - moon, circle, oval, oblong - which we use to prepare the sand for casting. The silver I use is 100% recycled, heated to melting temperatures. Once it is “rolling” we poor it through a funnel into the cast; this will give you your pendant. Nothing is as easy as that, and of course there will be lots of “clean up” including removing the spru (all this will be explained fully during the session) and filling the back of the pendant until it is smooth. A bale is then soldered on, the pendant is polished and ready for a chain of your preferred length to be added. Then you have your very own sand cast necklace!

The nature of this process means you can never guarantee the final outcome, so you need to have an open mind about what your finished piece will look like (e.g. don’t expect it to be exactly like one of the examples) but each and every one of them being different is the beauty of it! For this reason I am offering a session to create a single pendant, or you can create two, so you can have two beautifully unique pendants when you leave.

It may sound scary but rest assured I am an experienced professional and I am with you every step of the way. I am more than happy to do any of the steps for you, should you prefer. The aim of the session is for you to get your own unique piece of jewellery but also for you to enjoy the experience too.

I was lucky enough to be taught how to do this up in Scotland at The Smiddy, so these pendants all contain Banff found seaglass, and are photographed on a piece of granite I found at Banff beach.

I leave the silver envelope open so you can see the voucher, and include your own note should you wish, before passing on to the recipient. I am happy to send the voucher direct, please leave the recipient's name and address in the “additional notes” area during checkout. You can book a date for the session to be held, or leave if to the recipient to contact me direct.

Please be aware you are booking a session to create a variation of the examples shown. If you would like to make a different style please get in touch to discuss creating a bespoke workshop. This is to ensure I have the correct materials and time allowance for the session.
