The School - Hands-on silversmithing and jewellery workshops for curious makers and mindful experience seekers.
I’m an award winning, experienced qualified silversmith and jeweller, and a qualified tutor and I teach because I love it. Sharing my passion, seeing someone thrive while stepping into their creativity and watching their confidence grow alongside their pride in their creation.
Back when I graduated from BA Hons Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery I realised there were very few opportunities in Norfolk for people to try their hand at silversmithing and jewellery making, so I created just that - workshops offering a variety of different items to make, for all skill levels.
Fast forward a few years and I’ve obtained a formal teaching qualification as I believe in offering the best experience possible. Over the years my workshops have evolved and improved into something I am really proud of, and proud of the feedback I receive.
For me teaching is a two way street - I learn so much from my students both through the questions I’m asked which make me consider the answers, and also the random conversations we have about anything and everything!
Sharing my skills and knowledge while helping to keep the traditional heritage craft alive and having that sense of community in what is usually a quite solitary practice.
“Excellent course, in a well appointed space, delivered with humour and style”
“A fun way to learn new skills in a calm and welcoming environment.
"Your passion was so clear I felt I could have chatted to you for hours about your craft!"
"Every step was explained perfectly and I felt very comfortable using the tools and equipment! It gave me a good understanding of silversmithing and all the wonderful things that can come out of it!"
Workshops
I offer a variety of silver workshops in my private studio in Horsford, Norfolk, from experience sessions to a 5 week beginners course covering all the basics and more.
“I can’t thank you enough for the soldering session. I now understand the process and am grateful for the lessons I learned such an informative time, you are a great teacher and I will be back to study with you again.”
Many people want to delve into silversmithing but don’t know where to start - I’ve got you. I make the experience as stress free as possible and provide everything you need while demonstrating each step myself so you can see everything first hand.
Coming to a workshop is a chance to relax and unwind. To immerse yourself in a new experience and tap into your creative side. Not only do you get to enjoy making yourself a new piece of jewellery but you also leave with a greater understanding of silver, how it works, and knowledge of the different processes used in creating handmade silver jewellery.
Workshops are held at a relaxed pace, you are made to feel comfortable and there will be plenty of opportunities for questions and to take photographs to document the processes.
Once you have purchased the workshop you can arrange a convenient date. I am flexible so these can be held during the week or on Saturdays (please be mindful that Saturdays book up quickly), depending on availability. You can find my current availability here
To secure a date you will need to purchase the session via the SHOP area of the website. Sessions must be held within 12 months of purchase.
"The pace was perfect. I couldn't believe how the time flew, though. It was nice to be able to chat and have a cuppa."
“I had such a lovely morning and have been recommending the ring-making workshop to all my friends and family"
"You were very welcoming and patient. You explained everything step by step and also worked on an example at the same time, so that I could see exactly what I needed to do for each step. You also explained and demonstrated something that I asked about. A wonderful and exciting experience for someone who just loves to create beautiful things"
The Recycled Silver Jewellery Course
This structured course covers five sessions of 2.3/4 hours and will take you from beginner to intermediate, perfect for those looking to take up making silver jewellery as a hobby, or a side hustle.
I provide everything you need so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm! You will learn how to make two different styles of ring, two pairs of earrings, a stone set necklace, a stone set ring (a different type of stone setting so you learn two techniques), as well as a soldering and sawing masterclass.
We cover how to finish everything to a high standard and you get a folder full of a wealth of information I share with you, to take away and become your future reference book.
“Excellent course, in a well appointed space, delivered with humour and style.”
“We had a good time whilst working hard on the projects. Suzanne friendly and knowledgeable. She is clearly an experienced instructor and an extremely skilled silversmith.”
“I have already impressed friends and family. Jewellery making can be a mindful endeavour which is what I was looking for.”
“The projects showcased the skills relevant to someone beginning to delve into Silversmithing. The final bezel set stone on a ring was particularly satisfying.”
“The set of skills learnt will no doubt stand me in good stead going forward. Soldering and fetalling were the stand out. I now have an understanding of the basic concepts and how to use the relevant tools.”
