The Studio - Functional artworks created by hand for collectors, curators, and those with an appreciation of craft and design.

A silversmith creates objects from silver, gold and other metals primarily for functional and decorative purposes and silversmithing is a heritage craft. While a jeweller and a silversmith are different disciplines there are many interchangeable skills, techniques and processes between the two.

I refer to myself as a silversmith and jeweller; My degree was a BA Hons in Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery and while my heart is with the silversmithing, I wouldn’t want to choose between the two as they both scratch different itches.

Back in 2013 when I started the degree my end goal was to become a professional jeweller. But by the end of the first year my work had naturally become larger, more functional, and realised I was becoming a silversmith as well as a jeweller.

I now have an BA and an MA under my belt, and have attended skills development courses with some of the best silversmiths in the UK. I am committed to increasing my skills and creations while promoting silversmithing as the brilliant craft it is.

Silversmithing originated in ancient times, with the earliest known silver artifacts dating back to around 4000 BCE. I’ve been in exhibitions containing items from 2000 BCE and the level of detail is mindblowing. Today we create items using exactly the same techniques but we have the luxury of gas, electricity and steel. To think of silversmiths thousands of years ago creating such amazing work with the limited materials they had, whenever I think I don’t have the right tools I remind myself of those before me.

I am an award winner in my craft which I am very proud of - this is the greatest accolade and recognition of my hard work and determination.
