Soldering Skills Development - three options: In person, or kit with tutorial videos

Improve your soldering skills with me, an award winning, professional and experienced silversmith, jeweller and teacher. This is the session/kit I wish I had access to all those years ago when I started. I’ve used my many years of experience both as a maker, and observing students, to this session, and this kit for those who are further afield. I have seen the difference these exercises make in each and every student who has completed them, watching their confidence group and their mindset change from soldering being a pain,to something they enjoy.

What is it? It is a one stop shop for learning different techniques of soldering, as well as getting to understand why and how soldering works.

Who is it for? If you have just started your silver jewellery making journey, or you’ve been doing it for a while but soldering is the one area you feel you could do with a little help.

What is included? All of the copper (it is perfect for practising on as it works in the same way as silver yet removes the pressure of melting something precious, this way you can fully focus on the technique), and solder you need to learn sweat soldering, how to solder jump rings, earrings posts to earrings, a ring or bezel, and a bezel to a backing sheet.

Each technique is accompanied with a written instruction sheet with images, for you to refer back to, and most importantly a video of me demonstrating the process in real time. This video allows you to see exactly what you should be looking for when you do it yourself, and I give you a running commentary throughout, carefully explaining each step. These will become an invaluable resource.

The outcome of this session or kit - You will have a greater understanding of solder, and have the confidence to tackle your future projects. You will have a wider scope of techniques to use for each soldering task, which leads to time and material efficiency (and less cleaning up of the solder afterwards!). The experience of learning these will mean you understand soldering enough to problem shoot so when issues arise (and lets be honest, solder is solder so there will be issues from time to time!) you will have the knowledge to swftly trouble-shoot.

The videos created are for personal use only and not to be shared or used in public. Access to the videos is on a private YouTube channel and you will be sent the links, which will remain live open ended.

The session in Suzanne’s studio lasts approx. 2.5 hours and you will be able to ask all questions silver while you are there. You will be sent an availability link once you have purchased the session to choose your date.

You will need your own soldering setup of torch, blocks, tweezers, pic and flux.
